My newest vintage handbag

Looky what I got! I just love this Roger Van S two tone purse! It looks so modern, in all senses of the word. I just saw an ad for a Kate Spade tote that looked very similar to this. But I am fortunate enough to own an original, finely crafted Roger Van S. When it comes to leather goods, you can’t beat Roger Van S.

vintage roger van s bag

According to the mavens at Enoki World

Who was Roger Van S? Technically a husband and wife team, Roger Van Schoyck and wife Doris, a former model, made some of the best bags in all vintage archives. Actually Roger was encouraged to take up a craft when he injured himself in the Army so he started tooling around with leather. When the savvy Mrs. put in her two cents, they created a signature collection of pigskin bags in all shapes and sizes with amazing shape and hardware.

The best part is this is such a season-less bag. This baby will carry me from winter to spring. Now I have to rethink my Coco Trophy Queen bag I was going to buy in the same color combination, but can anyone ever have enough black and white in their wardrobe?

Great bag. I’d tuck in the straps and use it as a clutch too. There’s something so timeless about a structured bag. I’m currently on the lookout for a cherry red one.

That bag is freaking amazing! I would definitely use it all the time. I love the way it was designed :)

You’ve got an eye for vintage stuff! I love the bag too, you could just use cream detergents to clean up and make the white leather brighter! ;)

Whoa. GREAT choice!
I, too, LOVE Roger Van S. I have only one in my collection and I am always getting outbid on my favorites. They’re so wonderfully made, aren’t they?
By the way, I really enjoy your blog and have mentioned both you and Roger Van S in entries on my own blog.
Keep on keepin’ on!

Oh I love RVS bags! I think I want to blog about them because more people need to know what fine craftsmanship these bags have. I am VERY familiar with your site Lucitebox! You are a VFG member right? Or was it from many moons ago on Ebay? Thanks for stopping by – off to read your blog.

Nice to know you have heard of my business, Sandra. It seems it took me awhile to discover you, but I’m sure glad I did!
You’re correct. I sold on eBay for about 5 years. I took a hike from auction style selling about a year ago, but still enjoy buying :) I was once a member of the VFG long ago. Now, I’m doing business on my site exclusively.
Good to “meet” you!

Just wanted to correct some information. It was Roger and Doris Van Schoyck….he had been in the Coast Guard and yes, she was a model…used to carry the bags on shoots after they started making them, and that’s how they first got noticed. Family friends. They were wonderful people. Roger died in 2007. And yes, the bags were wonderful. Still are. They also made some scarves, also lovely.

Kathy,
thank you so much for the added information. I love learning about how designers got their start, I am sorry for the loss of your friend.
