Spot Treaters for Vintage Clothing

Vintage collectors have to deal with some heinous garment issues before they will display and sell their treasures. This is part of the reason why a reputable seller's items will generally cost more. We take the time to hand wash, dry clean and treat garments.

Here are two of the best products we have ever used:

goddards.jpg
available at goddards.com

Goddard's of England is a powerful spray on stain remover that will eliminate tough stains for non washable fabrics. This is especially helpful when you have a 1940s rayon dress that will shrivel up if you try to hand wash it.

soilove.jpg
available at Amazon.com

Another vintage seller turned us on to Soilove. It is an amazing product, that apparently is hard to find, but we find both these products at Longs Drugs.

**At the risk of being misinterpreted, I have edited the above entry. Thanks Elisa for pointing this out.

Vintage Pirate Purse

One of my favorite handbag designers is Lulu Guinness. She is the Queen of quirk. You could be wearing torn jeans and a dirty sweatshirt from your hamper, but make it look like a cat walk outfit with Lulu Guinness bag on your arm.

And of course I love her because of the obvious influence from vintage themed handbags and purses. She pays homage to the infamous Floridian designers of fun and funky motif bags such as this Midas of Miaimi Pirate theme purse. Look at how wonderfully colorful and cheeky this beauty is. I love it!

Yes! I read.

I went to Borders to pick up some magazines today and quickly browsed through the collecting section. I squealed with excitement when I saw the lates Judith Miller book, Handbags. The images are amazing and there were examples of the vintage Gucci I bought, but in clutch form.

She also published a 60s Clothing book that had fun Pucci and amazing furniture.

The Battle for Vintage Gucci

Ever since I got back from Italy, I have had this incessant need for a vintage Gucci bag. It's sick, really. But not just any bag. It had to be the gold GG medallion original Blondie bag. I saw one on eBay and I was so hooked. I had no idea how difficult it would be to actually get one though.

My first attempt was a black leather one. I watched. I waited. I forgot. I completely and utterly forgot to bid on time. This just made me want it more.

My second, third and fourth attempts, I was outbid. I hate you pollyannarose! But like a good vintage huntress, I did not give up on my game. At last, I am the proud owner of a navy blue 1969-70 vintage Gucci shoulderbag.

In the fight between good vintage girl and vintage girl, there is a rightful winner. Yes, me. It's been a long battle on eBay, but I am triumphant.
