The Battle for Vintage Gucci

Ever since I got back from Italy, I have had this incessant need for a vintage Gucci bag. It's sick, really. But not just any bag. It had to be the gold GG medallion original Blondie bag. I saw one on eBay and I was so hooked. I had no idea how difficult it would be to actually get one though.

My first attempt was a black leather one. I watched. I waited. I forgot. I completely and utterly forgot to bid on time. This just made me want it more.

My second, third and fourth attempts, I was outbid. I hate you pollyannarose! But like a good vintage huntress, I did not give up on my game. At last, I am the proud owner of a navy blue 1969-70 vintage Gucci shoulderbag.

In the fight between good vintage girl and vintage girl, there is a rightful winner. Yes, me. It's been a long battle on eBay, but I am triumphant.

On the Antique Score! of the Week, yesterday at an Antique shop in Carlingford (Co. Louth, Ireland), I found 2 1880s "flow Blue" dinner plates for 9 Euro for the pair. $11 For both.

At any antique store in Orange or Temcula I would have paid a minimum of $80 each. Score!

Sometimes ebay creates addictions, it is a little sad, but I too have fallen victim to it's evil ways. Recently I HAD to have these black leather ankle boots and would do everything in my power to get them including making an offer via e-mail and wishing that they accepted.

I am the winner!

Sandra:

Oh no vintage sister! You are not alone. And it appears that there is something in the water, because the addiction is catching on. It is an all out war for good, rare vintage Gucci bags.

Gotta love those vintage bags. I have a Gucci bag from 1984. I was thinking of either giving it to my 13 year old niece or putting it on Ebay. I also have the matching check book wallet.
What's a girl to do. It's a honey color bag that you could only get at Gucci.
I'd keep but it's too small for me. While it's not a tiny bag, I know have to carry around "luggage" size bags. Im on Ebay right now trying to win either a vintage Gucci or Louis Vuitton.

I have a great vintage Gucci briefcase. It is circa 1985 with the red strip. It has a zipper across the top and is in great condition. I can't decide whether to Ebay it or hold on. They seem to be real collector's items now. I only used it for three or four years, but never noticed a serial number under the Gucci label inside. Have no idea what that means. Anyone know?

kelly:

I have a vintage Gucci handbag in excellent condition. It is green suede with a bamboo handle and it has 2 red stripes with double twist closures on the front. I belive it was pproduced in the early '60, but I am not exactly sure. I am trying to determine the value but I can not find a single bag that looks like it on line. Someone please help!!

Does anyone know what time period Gucci used the enameled tigers heads as clasps? I am looking at the most amazing vintage Gucci coat but am having a hard time dating it. Also the guy wants $1200.00 for it, I think this is over priced what do you ladies think?

-Heather,
I found this passage in a 2000 article "Heads up! Chanel-style pale shoes with dark toe caps (as well as quilted leather coats). A Pucci-esque geometric print on a glitter dress. Whoops! Cartier for belts, shoes and purses trimmed with snarling jungle cats. Backstage, they were described as "tigers" and supposedly came from Gucci's 1960s archives." Here's the link: http://www.iht.com/articles/2000/02/24/fash.t_4.php

Does the coat look like it's from the 60's? Send me an image.

Hi,
I have a vintge Gucci bag, it's a one of a kind (aren't they all?!!) I was hoping you can (or recommend someone) give me an idea of what it's worth.
It's convertible 2 in 1, navy leather/silk handbag/clutch. What makes this bag so unusual is that you can change it from a handbag to a clutch by taking the leather outter off. There a slight markings
The inside is stamped Gucci 64, I'm guessing it's from 1964. The bag measures 9.6 x 6.75 inches, the handles measures 17inches from one end to the other.
I'm happy to send photos of the bag if it helps (and it's a really beautiful bag)
Cheers
