Found: Killer Edith Head Pattern

I have never blogged about a pattern, but I had to tell you about this little beauty. This pattern by Advance was an Edith Head creation. I love the super long neck tie, belted. It's so chic and sort of dominatrix at the same time. It reminds me of something Karl Lagerfeld would design.

I love when I find relative, wearable vintage, even if you have to make it yourself.

New Years Resolutions (Promises)

Now that Christmas is done with, I really need to make some resolutions for 2007. In no particular order:

-blog more
-shop wisely
-blog more
-get involved in more creative projects
-blog more

So, you read it here. I will make it a goal to blog more frequently.

Wait. Do I wait until 1/1/07?

5 Reasons Why You Should Invest in Vintage

So my latest acquisition from eBay is a quilted Chanel bag. No, not the highly coveted 2.55, but quilted nonetheless. But Chanel will never go out of style. Ever. Which is my first reason for acquiring vintage now.

1. It never goes out of style - Classic or iconic vintage will always make a second and third round. It is no secret that high end designers buy vintage as a source of inspiration for future collections. Own the real deal.

2. It's an investment. Like any other antique or collectible, clothing and accessories only go up in value. By the time a collectibles book comes out in print, the value of an item has already changed.

3. So much better than trends. Because you will look as if you are ahead of or indifferent to trends. Do you really want to be the label whore wearing the latest IT everything from head to toe? No offense fashionistas, but where is the style in that? Work it your own unique way. There is a difference in getting dressed, and having style.

4. Same quality, less money. If a fashion conscious person truly buys for quality and design, then vintage is the way to go. You can get a close to couture garment for a fraction of the price. Of course, you cannot walk into your local Salvation Army and find these treasure with regularity. You do have the luxury of leaving that to the professionals who scour the earth for a vintage Lanvin or DVF wrap dress for you.

5. The pretty factor. Because you will always turn heads and receive compliments. I have never worn a vintage outfit that people ignored. And of course I love the attention.

Vintage Shine & Shimmer

The middle of the 20th century was a time for innovation in design and industry. And in the fashion world, it was a time of glamour and cocktails. It was completely proper to wear a gittery frock o a neighbor's house for cocktails, records on the Hi-Fi and mingling.

Cocktail dresses in the flashiest of metallics or sprinkled with bling are all the rage again. Add a modern touch like opaque leggings, booties, or a casual belt to keep from looking costume-y.

It's not too late to order some fabulous dress such as these babies. But hurry! Time is running out.

White Lilli Diamond Sequin Dress available at Debutante Clothing.com
Velvet and Taffeta Ruched Bubble Skirt Dress available at Shrimpton Couture

Emma Domb Cocktail Dress available at Vintage Grace.com
Beaded Rose Puff Skirt Dress available at Posh Girl Vintage

Already have the perfect LBD but need a little something to give it some glitz? Opt for vintage accessories like a rhinestone brooch, clear lucite necklace or rhinestone drop earrings.

Hot Jazz and Hot Fashion with Jovovich-Hawk

It's no secret that Jovovich-Hawk gives vintage design a nod. The design duo's quirky sense of style has made them one of the lead contenders in the model/actress/celebrity turned designer race.

But quirk cannot be created out of thin air. The personalities of the duo, Milla Jovovich and Carmen Hawk, can be seen in their cute performance on Style.com of a flapper era hot jazz number. Carmen can rock the ukulele like no one's business, and Milla has that baby doll voice that is so 1920s jazz girl, it's transporting.

Some of my other favorite bands that play a number of early jazz tunes are The Asylum Street Spankers from Austin and The Squirrel Nut Zippers. The Asylum Street Spankers are a real treat to see live because they are 100% acoustic.

Top Button Shows Vintage (and me) Some Love

If you are one of the unlucky few that are still not signed up for Top Button.com's newsletters, sign up now! You might have missed a picture of me on Kristopher Dukes' Street Walk feature. And of course, the outfit is vintage.

StreetWalk_120606.jpg

So I've said I can't wait to go back to the future, for that 1950s waspy-waisted, licorice-lipped look to disappear. I'll still admit that when a lady rocks it right, she's hardly over sweet, she's more sweetly hard, she vibes super boss versus little lady. Kind of like Sandra's vintage heart pendant: heavy and hard with a chunky chain, it's both bold and perfectly polished, same as Sandra's leopard look. Urban Outfitters makes an ooh la lovely heart locket watch that vibes the same. Pretty on the outside, practical on the inside, the necklace is how any lady should be, any decade.

You're uniquely chic and you rock the best accessories - you should be in Street Walk. Send us a full-length photo of you and a detail shot of your outfit's best accessory. Kristopher Dukes

This pic was taken by Miss K herself at the Glam.com cocktail party in LA.

I am wearing:
1. vintage 1970s leopard print jersey shirtdress
2. Trifari vintage gold heart necklace
3. quilted black wide belt ala Chanel
4. peeptoe wedges from Payless (yes Payless)

And not to toot my own horn, but doesn't it look a lot like Gwen's outfit?

Glam.com Bloggers Who Cocktail

Glam.com hosted a cocktail party at Tart at the Farmer's Daughter Hotel, across the street from the Farmer's Market, here in L.A. Most of the So Cal bloggers affiliated with Glam were in attendance. I was really delighted to meet Tara of When Tara Met Blog, Kristopher Dukes, fashion blogger princess, Allyson of This Next, MK, celeb gossiper at popbytes.com, Joshua at BumpShack.com (by the way, a total sweetheart, and my new partner in crime, Stevie of Fashiontribes.

Cocktails and appetizers were had by all. I was truly impressed by how friendly and knowledgeable everyone was, on topics beyond the blogosphere. I'll post some pics as soon as I get them.
