Debutante Clothing's Top Vintage Picks for 2007
Only a part time vintage fashionista? If I had to invest in just a few choice pieces of vintage to supplement my already fabulous wardrobe of LAMB, Marc Jacobs and Chloe, it would have to be the following:
1. 60's Mod Tent or Trapeze dresses
They were all over the runway for Spring and Fall. And with the release of Factory Girl, mod is going to be strong for the entire year. Choose wool pieces for fall and wear with leggings or tights and cotton blends for Spring.

2. Bold Colors-Yellow and Blue
International runway trends show both blue and yellow being hot colors this Spring. I see navy and cobalt blue continuing into next fall.

Yellow and Brown Trim dress available at Unique Vintage
3. Clear Lucite or Crystal Chunky Necklaces
Oscar de La Renta showed mounds of icy necklaces for Spring. I find these necklaces infrequently so when you see it in vintage, snatch it up. Before I do. Keep the color clear or very transparent.

4. Vintage It Bag
Chanel? Gucci? Judith Leiber? Bakelite? It's all good. Have at least one that people will gawk.
5. Anything Gold!
Vintage handbag, gold lame dress, chunky gold jewelry, gold embroidered sweater-you name it. On the Fall 07 runway, everyone was showing gold. Whether or no you care about the catwalks, gold no longer has the stigma it once had, as being your mom's jewelry. Just be sure it is a muted, brassy gold rather than a high yellow gold.
6. Snake Skin
Snake skin bags and shoes are glamorous and rocking at the same time. VintageSkins.com has the best collection on the web, by far.

Anything gold? Cool, that should be easy to accessorize with. And my own personnel taste will finally be in style!

Hello! I just love the new trends, unfortunately for me there are not so many shops here where I can buy these things :) but I'll keep looking!

Ah, all this looks well & good. Been there. Done that. What about us baby boomers? Am I to wear this dress AGAIN? I looked really great in this style in my 20's but how about 60? Does this still work for one who has been there before and find myself there yet again? Please advise. janeb

Hi Mona!
I'm really not the type of girl to follow fashion rules about seasons. In California, we only have two seasons really.
Traditionally though, these fabric are Fall and Winter, mostly because of their warmth factor. I'd say yes into early Spring, but later it might get too warm for them. Ultimately, wear what you love and are comfortable in.

Hi there JaneB.
it all depends, do you feel you still look good in it? You feel like you still got it? Some of those "Wear this at 40, 50, 60" guides I think really hold a woman back. Just because you are a baby boomer doesn't mean you can't be on trend.
Now if you don't want to do it again, try some mod touches-bold tunics with sassy linen tousers and gorgeous slides, do a shorter sheath instead of a tent. Get some high waisted trouser style jeans with a crisp white button down shirt.
Sometimes the best way to look truly stylish is to buck the trend!
