Crap & Couture: Patent Heels and Sandals

I've decided to add a new regular post on how to mix low end and high end fashion successfully without looking like a bag lady or a knock off artist.

In my first installment, I found three great pairs of patent leather shoes in vintage, high end and cheap price ranges. Of course you could go middle ground with like a BCBG shoe, but I loved these three so much, I had to share them.

Cheap & Chic

Crap & Couture-from low to high end and how to mix them up to create a fabulous wardrobe

See more of my Cheap & Chic list at ThisNext.

And if you want to be REALLY original and kick ass, Julie Wanda posted these amazing beauties at Barflies.net:

Crap & Couture: How to Mix High and Low

My blog and I are all about the Crap & Couture look-mixing designer pieces with vintage and cheapy finds. Anyone can dress in designer clothes from head to toe.

But a good stylist or even a home decorator will tell you that the biggest mistake you can make is to look like a page from a catalog.
Serena French at the New York Post has written a great article on how to mix high end fashion with low priced treasures.

Saavy shoppers and celebs alike have caught on to the stylist secret of mixing high-end designer items with cheaper pieces, be they a flea-market vintage find or a fast fashion fix from Zara.

But we already knew this right? But thanks to Angelina, now the whole world knows our secret! Darn her and her shopping savviness and plump lips and humanitarian acts. I hate her. Not really.

Ms. French offers some spot on tips, especially the warning about knock offs. I once, inadvertently, bought a bag that when I got home, realized was a leopard print replica of a Marc Jacobs Stam bag. Gulp. I won't use it. It's been sitting in my closet. The knock off is a dead give away.

It's hard to say what you should invest in. I always spend on staple pieces such as shoes or a good bag that don't go out of style. But for trendy pieces, I will go cheap.

I especially loved this outfit: and this clutch:

Milly Trunk Show Email Preview @ Saks

Saks is having an online preview for the Milly Trunk Show and I wanted to share some pretty little frocks with you. I love the 60s influence. These vintage inspired dresses look modern and chic with opaque black tights. Are you doing this again for Fall 07? Personally, I think it's good to go for another round of this trend. What do you think?

Cameron Silver on IQONS

My favorite vintage lovin' boy, Cameron Silver, is the featured Iqon at IQONS.com. There will be an interview posted on the site next week, so I will update you when that is live.

There are many vintage dealers that deal exclusively in high end, designer and couture collectible textiles. Some even wrote books. But Cameron truly knows his stuff. I am always impressed by his selections on his blog. Yes, he mixes contemporary with vintage, but it takes a keen eye to distinguish what will be collectible vintage in 20+ years. Even though I live in Southern California, I have yet to visit his store. I will soon. With camera and notebook in hand.

America vs. Eva in Leopard

I normally don't give a hoot what celebrities are wearing, especially the type that run around sans undies. But I was giddy to see this poll on People.com for five reasons:

1. Leopard
2. Latinas
3. America Ferrera (my favorite girl in the whole world, and Latina)
4. The prettiest lady on TV (and Latina)
5. A vintage inspired dress

So here you go. Who wears it better? Go to People.com to vote.
