Lagerfeld Endorses Chanel Mini Series
Variety has reported that Shirley Maclaine will star as the leading role in a mini series about the return of Coco to her beloved house Chanel. Of all the media projects coming out about the life of Coco Chanel, this is the most promising in terms of getting to the root of the infamous designer herself.
The mini series will focus on Gabrielle's return to design after her exile due to WWII. She returned to revive Chanel in the 1970s. The label used at this time was Chanel Creations rather than the Chanel label we are used to after Karl Lagerfeld took over.
And speaking of Lagerfeld, apparently he fully endorses the project and will even have a hand in helping costume designer Stefano de Nardis to recreate the Coco Chanel's designs.
While we are all familiar with the iconic quilted 2.55 bag and the Chanel long silhouette suits, it will be very interesting to see the lesser known designs of the 1970s revival when Chanel came out of hiding and into the designer limelight once again.

Costume Institute's blog.mode: addressing fashion
What do blogging and fashion have in common? From Fashion Week Daily's recap of the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute's latest show entitled "blog.Mode: Addressing Fashion", not much.

I see a bank of computers with a chic young woman browsing something on the screen, but other than the superficial quotes about the internet, I'm not really sure the event had anything to do with the blogosphere, other than a quick mention.
Is this failure from the publication to report on the blogging angle of the evening, or was it a mediocre attempt by the event planners to jump on the new media bandwagon?
If anyone was there, I'd love to know what exactly was addressed while in blog mode at the Met?
P.S. I love Mr. Blahnik's intriguing comment about Galliano and McQueen. Juicy story indeed.

Editors Update
Thanks to Sylvia Rubin of the SF Chronicle for clarifying this for me.
The millions of fashion blog posts out there may be fun to read, but unlike with political blogging, Koda doesn't believe the fashion blogosphere in general has a real impact on the industry. "Fashion is integral to everyone's experience, but it's certainly not equal to the political blogging sector," he says. "That has real impact."He does religiously read fashion blogs by New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn and Washington Post staff writer Robin Givhan, he says. "What I get out of them is something as a curator I never get - the commentary on their blogs from the layperson, the audience. And I think they can inform our judgments."

How to Date Vintage Clothing Labels
Vintage clothing dealer Seberly 06 of Pavement Vintage has graciously written a very helpful guide on how to date vintage clothing by its labels.
For me, I've read several books and price guides and spent hours and hours (literally) on the internet doing research. Whether you're buying or selling vintage, you can use this guide to help determine the age of a garment. While most of these are the exception, not the rule, it can at least help you narrow an item down to a decade.

Vintage Chanel Part Deux at Yoox.com
One of my favorite online stores is Yoox.com. Where else can you find unheard of in the States Italian designers mingling with luxury vintage? This is the best of both worlds.
Currently, Yoox.com is offering their second installment of Simply Coco Chanel, a collection of covetable vintage and previously owned Chanel dress, handbags, and jewelry from the Holly Brubach's personal stash.
I imagine Ms. Brubach's time at the New York Times afforded her first eye view of each season's collections. I mean look at it all. Maybe it's just that I am not from NY, but how does someone amass so much Coco? But like Holly, I feel very confident when I do buy Chanel, all two pieces. Looking at the prices her pieces are commanding on Yoox, the only other brand I know that retains such great value is Honda, and well that's just not chic enough.

From Project Runway to Leg Warmers
If you saw Project Runway last night, you know that Jack had to leave because he had a really bad staph infection on his face and needed treatment.
I was really sad because I think he is so cute and sweet. But no worries, because you can get a sweet Jack fix right now. Jennifer Beals has got nothing on Jack.
I peed a little.

eBay Adventures in Luxury Vintage
I have been coveting a vintage Chanel bag for a good portion of 2007. Despite the fraction of the price tag, vintage Chanel is still pretty expensive and I am very frugal. Hence the obsession with vintage.
I purchased one off of eBay earlier in the year, but it's very modern and perfect for work. But I still wanted an iconic style. Maybe something along the lines of a 2.55, but with all the celebrity cachet, they are nearly impossible to find for a deal and they are everywhere. Deep down inside, I'm still in high school-an anti-establishment teen and don't want to look like everyone else. So on to my expensive designer bag...
Yesterday, after being spurred by Susie Bubble's eBay tutorial, I searched arduously for "vintage chanel bag" and "chanel purse". Sometimes I omit the vintage keyword because I know some resellers think vintage makes it sound old and no one will want to buy it, even though they disclose it is in used condition. Go figure.
The auction ended at 10:50 am. But like a good high fashion-at-discount-prices obsessed girl, I logged on at work, and bid. And bid. And bid. And lost. By $20.
I was disappointed over the bag that never was. It was perfect. Double gold chains, soft quilted leather, excellent condition and as classic as the 2.55 but much more youthful. It also had the cutest interlocking Cs charm on the chain. I loved the fact that the CCs weren't quilted on the leather, but instead just hung there playfully. Much more my style.
I couldn't get the bag out of my head. Do I dare try to find another with a BIN price? I dare.
Glad I did, because I found another one exactly like the first, in better condition (according to the description) but they wanted double what I was willing to pay, but were accepting offers. So I made an offer at half the price. And they accepted!
So you are now looking at the proud owner of the newest iconic piece of luxury vintage in her wardrobe:

I have my eye on a patent leather one too.

Roland Mouret Style Secrets
The Moon dress by the modern master of va va voom dresses, Roland Mouret, has finally arrived at Bergdorf's with half of the coveted frock already spoken for.

First it was the Galaxy dress and now the Moon dress. These beautiful dresses instantly give your body a look that only tens of thousands of dollars, some liposuction and rib removal could do. An instant hour glass shape.
But it's not in the fabric. There is no spandex sucking you in. It's all in the little known details that the original wiggle dress of the 50s and 60s featured that creates the illusion of a heavenly body.
The trick is to bring the eye to the parts that matter the most. The bust, the waist and the hips.
The Galaxy dress had the portrait neckline. The Moon dress has the faux shrug bodice treatment that darts and ends right at the center of the bust. Can't get more direct than that. That's a straight line to the girls.
The waist features a faux belt or stitching to define the waistline. The Moon dress features a diamond shaped panel on the waist. It doesn't matter that it doesn't go all the way around. As long as there is some sort of demarcation of the waistline. Even a thin strip of piping can give this illusion.
Some stylists will tell you to ahttp://www.debutanteclothing.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt.cgi?__mode=view&_type=entry&blog_id=1void any fussiness around the hips at all times. Like you can really hide the fact that you have hips! To create balance with the bust, you will need some sort of detail at the hip-flap, faux pockets, draping.
Whether you go with a clingy fabric or a very structured, lined skirt, the boobs and the hips are what will create this illusion of curves in all the right places. Embrace them.
