A Marimekko Mystery - Earrings ??

By now, everyone who loves the bold, graphic prints of Marimekko has heard of the amazing collection at H&M.

I also wanted to share with you the Marimekko concept store because colorful shapes and patterns shouldn't just be worn on your body! They carry a slew of punchy patterned lifestyle products from linens to art work.

But I am totally stumped on this pair of earrings I acquired. They are marked marimekko® DESIGN BY AURIFEX.

Are they vintage? They must be licensed and not truly Marimekko. I can't seem to find any information on them. Marimekko experts - help!

Hi! I'm writing from the Marimekko Concept Store in Washington, DC. The word from Marimekko Finland's rep for North America is that he/they are unfamiliar with the company and they aren't at all likely to be a licensed product as they don't have jewelry on license. My guess is that they are from the 80s, probably produced in small batches. Now, the earrings are very cool - sleek, in fact - and whoever has them in her possession definitely has something original. So, I feel as if I'm raining on a parade (and that I don't like to do), but I'm working on the assumption that you really wanted to solve your mystery ('cause sometimes, you know, in the right context and all, mystery isn't such a bad thing and all . . .). This was a fun one; I've never seen these, and as a Marimekko-ite, I've been following the brand for a while now.

Sandra:

Hi Marni!
Thank you so much for your input. I suppose I should've gone straight to your site and asked huh?

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch with the rep in Finland too. Now I wondering how a company can take the Marimekko name (complete with registration symbol) and add their name to it. It's not as if they are trying to counterfeit. How odd. When I Google Aurifex, it seems to be an Asian company.

The earrings are mine by the way, and you are most certainly not raining on any parade. I was bewildered by these earrings and I am so glad a knowledgeable person was able to shed some light.
