What do you like? Hate? All comments welcome.

alexwooquestionmarknecklace.jpgI am having a moment of total humility here. This past week, I've been lamenting on how to get all of you lovely readers to comment. Is it me? Or am I not giving you what you like? I know there are many fashion blogs that don't get very many comments, but my subscriptions say you're reading, my stats say more and more are finding Debutante Clothing, yet, things are quiet around here. So, I would love to know more about you!

My other fear is that comments aren't making it through spam. After about 30 nasty comments, I had to pull out some heavy artillery to zap the spam.

Come out and play. And let me know what is working and what is not. Really -- I won't cry.

Hello! I have only been reading your blog for a week or so, but I like it very much so far! :)

Patti:

I love it all!!!!! I especially have interest in the vintage jewelry- celluloid necklaces, bakelite (of course) rhinestone juliana bracelets( the chunkier, the better). I could go on and on. Who were some of the most prominent manufacturers of the costume jewelry? It was made so much better back then. Would love for you to delve into the history of some of these designers. I only know a few. Really though- you do a wonderful job at your blog!!

Hi Sandra,

As I have said in person, I would love to you expand your subject matter as you are a very good writer and you have great opinions on a variety of subjects.

While I read every post, I really don't care for fashion. Cute vintage, yes, but fashion no. Thus, I don't have much to comment on other than my alienating opinions on high fashion... ;o)

Most folks are lurkers, they read but don't comment. To get folks to comment you either have to create a forum like atmosphere (gather a few folks to comment regularly and others will follow) or create a definitive voice on your subject that gets folks all riled up to comment.

I also think with the advent of feed readers, most folks are reading blog posts in a form other than on the blog and as a result have to feel really passionate about the subject to click through and actually comment.

Sandra:

i love jewelry as well. Especially plastics. I will definitely have to do a blog post on costume jewelry Patti!

Sandra:

Expand within vintage? Good idea. But I never intended for this blog to be a personal blog, although I do make personal references within the scope of style, fashion and fashion history. Modern fashion has a lot to do with vintage fashion because it is all on a time continuum. Vintage fashion has and will always affect modern fashion and it's good, actually important to recognize that.

I don't like all fashion, but I do adore designers that either do amazing and new things with fabric like Vivienne Westwood, or continue the work of fine fashion houses because craftsmanship is as important as beauty.

vintage_mck:

I have been a lurker for just a bit but I love the entire blog - the modern clothing that has vintage elements, the jewelery, the beauty, everything - keep it up!

By expansion, I don't mean into a personal blog, what I mean is to take your core idea and trot down all the lanes that are around it and that spoke out from it.

A great example of this is BLDGBLOG (bldgblog.blogspot.com) - technically this is a blog about buildings and architecture by Geoff Manaugh, but what he has done over time is to investigate in the blog his passion for space, the idea of public, culture, history, etc as it relates to architecture, buildings, and what humans fashion out of materials. While I am not the biggest architecture fan, I *LOVE* this blog as he takes me down lanes I would not think of and brings his passion and expertise to the table and makes me care.

I have always believed that you are that kind of writer as you are that in person. You are passionate, intelligent, and fiery.

Make me believe in fashion, if that is the core of Debutante. I already believe in vintage fashion and have for years, but anything post 1965 or 1968, I think "bleh". Craftsmanship or not, most stuff post 1970 leaves me cold cold cold.

If all things vintage is the core of this blog, then takes us more down those roads. Show us your house (people who only know Sandra online, her house is a beautiful tribute to mid-century modernism in a way that is comfortable and artful). Show us your love for craftsmanship, for design, for all the aspects of culture and life that makes vintage so wonderful.

p.s. I found my book that made me fall in love with vintage, and will inflict it upon you when you get here. 20,000 Years of Fashion.

liz:

I have been reading your blog for several months, and I like the combination of edgy, rock-chick style, with hand made items. I say, keep up the good work. I would love it if you would check out my art and fashion blog at www.lizblair.blogspot.com. If you have any suggestions for me, I would be happy to hear it!
