Vintage Find - 1950s Novelty Zoo Print Skirt

On a recent shopping trip to the Rose Bowl with the lovely Tina Poppy of Violetville Vintage, I was on a shopping mission. I was hunting for adorable cotton skirts for summer. I didn't end up finding any in my size and budget, so I hit trusty eBay.com when I stumbled across this gem.

I am a sucker for novelty prints, but not the traditional Mexican/Fiesta type prints. I feel those aren't novelty enough since I am Mexican! I really love comical, absurd prints like the whale print dress I featured a few weeks ago. This adorable print of a family at the zoo, complete with cages and balloons is so original! Who would ever think to put a zoo scene on a skirt. I love it. I need it.

I get you. I keep wanting to make a dress out of 30s repro fabric with kittens on it, and people look at me like I'm crazy. Novelty prints are just plain fun.

I am in love with this print! in my opinion every needs a good printed circle skirt.

I love that there are so many 50's patterns that are totally "crazy", but still in a very organized and stylish way. That's a great pattern indeed!

Solanah - kittens, zoo animals, whatever. Let them think you're crazy. They're too cute.
Kim - I agree!
Ulrika - Isn't it fab? I knew you'd like it.

I think novelty prints are so undervalued these days in fahion trends. They are so unique and really spicing up any fabric. Love this one by Mill street Vintage. The shop has inspiring and to die for clothings!

This is completely fabulous! We just had the most amazing lobster print dress at Circa Vintage that sadly didn't get past my shoulders, so I'm on the look out for the perfect novelty print.
