Punk Couture at the Met
The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art launched its latest exhibit “Punk: From Chaos to Couture”. Dang! One more reason I wish I lived near New York.
The spring 2013 exhibition organized by The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art will be PUNK: Chaos to Couture. The exhibition, on view from May 9 through August 11, 2013 (preceded on May 6 by The Costume Institute Benefit), will examine punk’s impact on high fashion from the movement’s birth in the 1970s through its continuing influence today.
I know some of my hard core punk friends will turn their noses up at the idea of punk couture, but if we consider Vivienne Westwood as the Queen Mum of rips and studs then there is no denying that that punk style is a true couturier craft. It’s hand made, designed piece by piece, and one of a kind. Who cares if your spray painted T-shirt is made of cotton and not silk embroidered by little old ladies in Paris.
I really hope the exhibit comes to Los Angeles! Thank Liz at ejc designs for sending me this info!
