vintage fashion marketing

The marketing savvy Andrea Merida was kind enough to let me contribute to her fantastic new site, I’ll be writing about marketing for vintage clothing businesses. My first article is up! It’s all about the importance of photography in selling vintage. There are some great tips for newbie and veteran sellers new to online selling.

I’m really excited about this opportunity. I love sharing information, so I hope that my contributions will be helpful to anyone in the vintage fashion business. Read. Enjoy.

just wondering if you could elaborate on your vintage clothing photography article? Specifically what you mean by “give each image an alternative title in the alt tag.” and “set your images to 80 kb to increase clarity”. I’m really digging your site. Thanks! :)

Hi Kerri.
When you write your html code, you should place the title in a tag called alt. Here’s an example of one if my images from the blog:
(I put spaces in the code so the image won’t actually appear). This is where you want to put in your key words. Google won’t read and index vintagefashionmarketing.jpg, but it will certainly understand the words separated.
As for the 80kb, some people may argue and say that an image weight of 50kb is sufficient, but most people are now on high speed internet and can handle larger images. Images are measure in two ways: the dimensions, and the quality. In Photoshop, I have to option of saving my image in low, medium and high quality. For an image that has been saved for the web (aka 72 dpi), high quality images (around 80kb) are just fine for the web.
Hope this helps. And thanks for reading and asking questions! Glad you are enjoying it.

Thanks so much for featuring your article! I’m not in the vintage selling game yet but I love the whole scene so much that I may have to jump right in and your article was very helpful.
